Avon Haircare and Beauty Haul

A few weeks back now I ran out of my trusty Avon shampoo and conditioner and had to place an order for some replacements! Because there were so many good offers on at the time it turned into a bit of a haul, so today I'm sharing with you what I bought...

It turned out to be quite a bit, heh. On the right you can see the two sun lotions I nabbed in anticipation of warmer Summer weather. I will be reviewing these very soon so stay tuned! They were £3.50 each down from £5 each so bargainous! (Link HERE).

Here you can see just how much I enjoy buying in bulk! I bought the regular sizes of the Advance Techniques Colour Protection shampoo & conditioner (reviewed HERE) as part of a set for £5 which included a deep conditioner that will hopefully work wonders on my dry, dyed hair. I also purchased the larger size of the shampoo because it was only £2.99 (on offer, usually £4.50 HERE) which represented really good value! It's a good job I love this range so much because I won't be running out of it anytime soon..

Whilst on the site I noticed the Avon Illuminating Face Pearls (pictured in the first photo) were reduced from £9 to £5 (link HERE). I've been on the hunt for a good new highlighter for quite a while so I eagerly popped it into my online basket. I also noticed the Super Shock mascara was on offer too, £5 down from £8.50. I've used this mascara before and really liked it so I've stashed it away to use when my YSL mascara dries up (link HERE). Finally I (quite randomly) bought this eye make up remover, which was £4. I'm not quite sure why I purchased this but I'll be using it and reviewing it in due course (link HERE).

The Best Bargain Shampoo and Conditioner for Coloured Hair

Today is supposed to be another post in my I Want Never Gets series, but due to some pretty bad technical problems instead I am sharing with you the shampoo and conditioner that has been responsible for keeping my coloured tresses bright and beautiful with absolutely no colour fade whatsoever! You may be surprised...

If you're a follower of Bee's Knees you may know that I colour my hair strawberry blonde, and have been doing so since February. One of the things I was most concerned about when I decided to begin dyeing my hair was colour fade, especially since my dyed colour is quite a vibrant copper and my natural colour is a more mousey brown. I wanted a shampoo and conditioner that would protect my colour, but also moisturise my hair and keen it in tip top condition - a priority given the amount of chemicals that are used to dye it! I did plenty of research to try and find the best option for my budget and ended up purchasing the Avon Advance Techniques Colour Protection shampoo & conditioner.

Avon may not be a brand you would automatically think of when considering good haircare brands, but I'd read a fair few good reviews and as the products were on offer (£1.80 each!) at the time I decided it was worth a punt. I've actually been blown away by how good these are - my colour does not change at all over the course of the 6-7 weeks in between dye jobs. Seriously, it stays exactly the same with no fade whatsoever. My hair is also glossy and not dry at all. I cannot believe a hair range that retails for £2.80 for 250ml is the best for my coloured hair, but it is!

I know there are a lot of bloggers with coloured hair that rave about high end hair products, and I was keen to post this so people know that there is a cheaper option out there. Avon Haircare Haul

In anticipation of dying my hair last Friday I decided to invest in some haircare products a couple of weeks ago (pre-spending ban, I promise!). I couldn't afford to buy all the MoroccanOil and Macademia Oil products I would love to try, so instead I hunted down the best affordable shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. The unanimous choice was Avon's Advance Techniques Colour Protection range, but I picked up a few other bits too!

At the time I placed my order, I was lucky enough to be able to take advantage of Advance Techniques hair care products being HALF PRICE! So I stocked up!

As these 250ml shampoos and conditioners were only £1.40 each (usually £2.80) I bought two of each!

I also bought some Root Boosting Tonic for £2.25, as although I have curly hair it can be lacking in volume at the root. I picked up this Curl Control Curl Enhancing Mousse (pump action, just like my Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion) for £1.75 as I thought it was worth a try! The 360 Nourishments Moroccan Argan Oil Mask and Leave In Treatment were £3.30 and £3.50 which is much much cheaper than the higher end alternatives! I figured my coloured hair will need nourishment so these will hopefully do the trick. Finally I had to bulk up my order to qualify for a discount I used, so I snapped up the ColorTrend Kiss N Go Lipstick in Poppy Love (£3.75) and got the Double-Ended Kajalstick Silver Star & Pitch Black eyeliner for only 99p!

How much is my face worth?

I've seen SO MANY HMIMFW posts all over blogs recently and was curious as to how much mine would come to! I like to think of myself as a bit of a bargain hunter, but I may surprise myself! Here we go...

I always start with AVON Magix Face Perfector - the best primer/base I've ever used, and it's occasionally on offer so not too expensive. It also has spf 15 which is always a good thing! Currently £5.25 but usually £10.50 from AVON. Linky!

I then prime my eyelids with E.L.F. eyelid primer. Bargain product at £1.50. Linky!

If necessary, I then pop a bit of mineral concealer on any blemishes or imperfections with my Lily Lolo mineral concealer in 'Nude'. I LOVE Lily Lolo, but more on that later. This is £7.29 for 5g, which lasts forever, so a good value purchase. Linky!

 

My foundation is 'China Doll' mineral foundation from Lily Lolo. It took me about 18 months to find the perfect shade of foundation for my skintone, but now I've discovered it I can't see myself using anything different. Lily Lolo is a great company - brilliant ethics and vegan friendly. The ingredients to their mineral cosmetics are also really good for your skin, and my own spot problems diminished significantly after switching to LL foundation! £12.49 for a tub that lasts ~6 months. Linky!

 

I then seal in my foundation with this divine finishing powder, also from Lily Lolo. I use 'Flawless Matte' because I have a tendency to get a bit oily in the afternoons. £12.49, and again it lasts around 6 months. Linky!

 

My blusher is also from LL! In shade 'Cherry Blossom', it's £7.29 and my pot is still so full after using this since November! Brilliant value and a lovely tone for everyday wear. Linky!

I then usually pop on a thin line of eyeliner colour just above my top lash line. I use this gorgeous blue or a nice purple by Collection 2000. They last all day and stay in place perfectly due to using primer! £1.99 Linky!

 

My everyday eyeshadow is this eye colour from Body Shop, in shade 7 which is 'Conker'. I bought this about 15 months ago and I've still got plenty left, so it's brilliant value. I love the metallic golden shimmer element in this shadow, but its subtle enough to wear during the day just to enhance a natural look. £8. Linky!

My mascara of choice is AVON's Supershock mascara in black. £8.50. Linky!

I then like to use Soap & Glory's 'Arch De Triumph'. I currently have a fringe so don't need to worry about my eyebrows (they're quite fair so I often fill them in with the brown end of this pencil), but I do use the white highlighting end every day in the corners of my eyes to open them up a bit. Currently £7.66 from Boots. Linky!

AVON Mascara, Lipstick & Face Perfector

I'm not feeling too well today, which is bad news for me but good news for you because it's given me plenty of time to test my free AVON goodies!

First up is the SuperShock Mascara in black

This is the picture from the AVON website, because I really wanted to show you the style of the brush on this mascara. I usually use Body Shop Define & Lengthen but have been looking for something new for a while! Perfect timing! The brush on my Body Shop mascara is very much your more traditional brush made from bristles, whereas the AVON is modern, made from plastic and appears to have shorter bristle-y bits.

I applied the mascara in the usual way but decided against using any brushes or wearing any other make up - I wanted you to see what the mascara does on its own. And..... drum roll please..... I'm really impressed! I've never used an AVON mascara before so I really didn't know what to expect but it went on nice and smoothly, and did a pretty good job of lengthening and defining my individual lashes. I think I've been converted!

Here's the best pic I could get of the result - left is the mascara'd eye, right is my other eye which has no make up on at all (for comparison).

Impressed? I was! AVON's SuperShock Mascara retails at £8.50 but is currently on offer for £5.00. Bargain!

Next up is the AVON Moisture Seduction Lipstick in Red Kiss.

Again, I'm using a website pic to show you the pretty swirly pattern on the lipstick as it was decidedly difficult to photograph!

I'm a big lipstick fan and love trying out different shades of pink and red. I have very fair skin and really enjoy experimenting with bright shades to see how they come out against my complexion. This beauty did not disappoint. I applied a tiny bit of lip balm prior to application, as I always do with lipsticks. Then I applied and blotted x 2. This is the result:

I'm super impressed with the colour - even on the first application the lipstick was very highly pigmented and really stood out. It has dried my lips out a tiny bit, but I think given the shade it's going to be quite a high maintenance look overall, so before reapplying I'd recommend slicking on some balm first.

Overall I'm very pleased with this lipstick, although I don't know why AVON decided to name it 'Red Kiss' as it's certainly more pink than red! Nevertheless, I really love the colour and it had decent staying power for such a bright shade. RRP £8.50 but currently selling for £6.00, it's definitely worth getting if you're looking for a bright shade for Spring!

Finally, the AVON Face Perfector.

My comments on this product will be brief, as there's really not a lot to say! It's a brilliant base for your foundation as it gives a lovely matte finish to the skin. It comes out as a sort of dry cream (sounds bizzare I know) and it blends into the skin to even out imperfections! It does a pretty good job of evening out the skin tone but not enough for the difference to be obvious on camera, hence no photo! I used this product a few years ago before I started wearing foundation. It helped my skin photograph better and also because I have quite an oily T-zone it gave my skin a matte finish.

Overall good for under make up, but with an RRP of £10.50 (currently selling for £7.00) I wouldn't repurchase, as I already use Lily Lolo Finishing Powder in Flawless Matte as a base for my foundation.
