Fabulous Nails #30

I can't believe it's Thursday already, this week is flying by! I am happily settling in to my new department at work and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself - long may it continue! I am also loving the sunshine and milder weather conditions, it really feels like Spring is just around the corner! If you're a long time follower of Bee's Knees you might know that my no. 1 nail varnish brand is Barry M, but I have been experimenting with Revlon and loving them (read about my all time favourite red nail varnish HERE) and also Models Own. Today's nails are a blend of Barry M and Models Own!

I love this nail look - I bought the Models Own Freak Out when it was on offer at Boots (buy one get one half price - I also got Snowflakes) but wasn't sure how to wear it. I decided to pick out the blue rather than the pink holographic pieces using the base colour and I really like the result!

I used Barry M Gelly Hi Shine in Blue Plum as the base colour - I do like the Gelly polishes but I'm not entirely sure why they're priced £1 above the usual Barry M nail paints.. they are a bit thicker but don't last particularly long on me.

Overall I was super happy with this Models Own polish - it's so different and unlike everything I've ever seen before or owned. I think it could be pretty versatile too, pairing it with a lighter blue would make it bang on trend for S/S13!

Fabulous Nails #19

I've been looking forward to sharing this nail look with you - it's one of my all-time favourites! 

I layered Barry M black polish underneath with Barry M glitter polish in Silver Cascade over the top, and of course my Sally Hansen quick dry top coat. I adore this look, its versatile and works with my work or my casual wardrobe! Silver Cascade is silver glitter polish with green, red and pink glitter pieces. I think painting it over black really shows off the different colours of the glitter.

Another potential party nail look I think! Although I do have some issues with removing glitter nail varnish, I read a tip somewhere and found it much easier to remove! If you make tiny little nail-sized pads with nail varnish remover on them, and then apply to your nails with kitchen foil securing them to your nails, wait 15 mins then you can just wipe away the glitter polish as easily as you would normal nail polish! Happy days!

Fabulous Nails - European Edition!

Whilst in Venice I came across a brand called Kiko Cosmetics, and as a beauty junkie I was immediately drawn into their shop...

They had such a wide variety of make up for ridiculously low prices!

 From eyeshadow...

 ...to mascara...

 ...to an epic range of nail varnish!

I ended up buying 3 eyeshadows that I'll be reviewing in a couple of weeks' time, and 4 nail varnishes. I got the two on the left as a present for my Mumma, cause I'm nice like that, and treated myself to the gorgeous purple toned baby blue pastel on the right and a fabulous glitter polish.

 This is the blue (3 coats) on its own. It's such an unusual colour I love it! But of course I didn't stop there...

 I applied the glitter polish over the top, and got this absolutely gorgeous effect! I can't help but feel like a mermaid with this on my nails! I love it! It's a lot less chunky than the Barry M glitter paints and so much easier to remove.

I applied these polishes without any other form of topcoat and they lasted a good 5 days before beginning to wear/chip at the tips. At 1.50 Euros for the glitter and 2.50 for the blue polish, I'm incredibly impressed!

Fabulous Nails #2

Here's the second instalment of fabulous nails! I've bought quite a few new Barry M paints recently, and I'm really excited to share them with you! But first here's a gorgeous unique Miss Sporty shade that I purchased ages ago but have only just gotten around to wearing!

 
It's a lovely orange/red/pink hybrid and is so bright and cheerful - perfect for Springtime! I took the photo after only two coats - I thought the colour built up really well for a cheap varnish, although it would benefit from a 3rd coat for longevity I think.
 
Continuing along the 'red' theme, here's Barry M's 150 Red Glitter. I was in awe of this paint before purchase and put it on my nails as soon as I got through the door, I was so excited! It took around 3 coats to get a decent cover - the polish is actually made from glitter and so it can be a bit gappy if you don't put as many coats on. I really loved having this on, my nails kept catching my eye and I thought it was so cute! Very Wizard of Oz! The only real downside came when I had to remove it - it took FOREVER (comparing it to usual Barry M paints). It was a real hassle to remove and I'm an impatient person, so I'm not sure how soon I'll be getting this one out of the fridge again..

Next up is one of Barry M's 'new' shades for Spring - 313 Dusky Mauve. I have nothing bad to say about this colour - its gorgeous and iridescent both in the bottle and dried on the nail (although it doesn't dry as 'dusky' as it appears in the bottle). It's so unique and pretty and I really haven't seen any other brand bring out anything similar. Two to three coats will suffice, a lovely subtle shade, perfect for wearing to work!
 
And last but not least is 290 Spring Green, again by Barry M. I thought this colour looked so lush and summery in the bottle I couldn't wait to get it on my nails! It took 3-4 coats to really build up the colour, which was disappointing, but the actual dried-on-the-nail colour is quite different to the one in the bottle. It's not as 'bottle green' (pardon the pun) which was a big let down for me. Still a nice bright colour, but not as special as I'd hoped!

I've finished with a recent pic of my nail varnish collection - I have 35 in total now! :)
